ABOUT
Anna Olsen is a composer and musician based in the Pheonix Metro-Area of Arizona.
Her musical journey began at the tender age of five years old when she began learning the piano and singing in local community groups. Her early years of musicianship are colored with variety as she spent her school years learning to play many instruments, including cello, voice, mallets, drums, and other percussion instruments.
Anna began transcribing music by ear as an early teen, but fell into the art of composition while studying at Mesa Community College, where she is currently attending. Under the direction of Dr. Vanja Nikolovsky, Anna has matched her drive for variety by writing for multiple instruments and ensemble types, including choral, vocal, winds, and strings. Her trio titled “Sonata in A Minor” won First Place in the Maricopa Community College District’s “Artists of Promise” Music Competition for Acoustic Music in 2025. This piece was also a finalist in the 6th Annual Vienna International Music Competition for the Composition Category. “Finis origine pendet,” her atonal string quartet, was an honorable mention for the 2025 Music Teacher National Association's Composition Competition in the State of Arizona.
Anna is currently finishing her Associate’s Degree in Music as she prepares to transfer to Arizona State University in the Fall of 2026. She continues to develop her craft while working on pieces for larger ensembles.
